MIT - 7, Grinnell - 0
MIT - 9, Lawrence – 1 (Final 6)

- Records: MIT (3-7), Grinnell (1-6), Lawrence (0-13)

- The Lead: The MIT softball team got two victories behind excellent pitching performances from seniors Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) and Deborah Torres (Portage, Mich.) as the Engineers blanked Grinnell 7-0 and defeated Lawrence 9-1. MIT's offense also stepped up, combining for 16 runs and 26 hits over the two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One vs. Grinnell

- Sophomore Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) laced a single to left to score sophomore Rylie Spiegel (Bradenton, Fla.) to give MIT a 1-0 lead in the third. The Engineers made it a two-run game in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Spiegel that plated first-year Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.).

- MIT broke the game open in the top of the fifth as they scored five runs. First-year Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.), Bivin, and junior Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas) each recorded an RBI while first-year Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) plated two with a single to center.

- Seven runs were more than enough for Chase in the circle as she pitched a complete-game shutout striking out 12, including six in a row while allowing just one walk and three hits. The 12 Ks are a new career high and the CG shutout is the first of her collegiate career.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two vs. Lawrence

- Bell got the offense going with an RBI groundout in the first to plate junior Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.). Spiegel gave MIT another run in the third with an RBI single to right to make it a 2-0 game.

- In the circle, Torres retired the first 13 batters before Mikayla Jeneske took a pitch over the leftfield wall. Torres earned the win going five innings, allowing just one run on two hits. She struck out five and allowed just one walk. Sophomore Zoë Kuhlken (San Diego, Calif.) entered in the sixth and retired Lawrence in order, registering two strikeouts.

- First-year Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) doubled to center to make it 3-0 and Cable followed with an RBI bunt single to give MIT a 4-0 lead in the fourth.

- The Engineers plated four in the fifth with Spiegel, Bell, sophomore Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.), and Adkison all notching RBI. Sell sealed the game with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth to give MIT the 9-1 win.
