The Lead: For the first time since May 13, 2019, a period of 1,026 days, the MIT softball took to the field to open the 2022 season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic as the Engineers split their opening games of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One vs. Transylvania
- The Engineers loaded the bases in the first and were able to take a quick 3-0 lead. MIT extended its lead to 5-0 in the second before the Pioneers scored four unanswered runs to pull to within one.

- Transylvania got a two-out rally going in the bottom of the seventh with a walk and single but Abby Frazier struck out to end the game as MIT secured the 5-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two vs. Alma
- A seven-run first inning all but sealed the game for Alma. The Engineers settled down allowing just two runs the remainder of the game.

- MIT scored in both the third and fourth inning and began to rally in its last at-bats in the seventh scoring two runs to make it a 9-4 game, but Alma held on for the win. Â
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers are back on the field tomorrow for two more games. MIT will take on Emory at 10 a.m. followed by a contest against Belhaven at 12 p.m.
