Â

Â
- The Lead: In non-conference play on a windy Tuesday afternoon, the MIT baseball team dropped a 13-6 road final to Suffolk University.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- After the Rams used a five-hit first inning that included a pair of triples to jump out to a 3-0 lead, MIT answered in the top of the second inning to tie things up at 3-3. Junior
Erik Anderson (Palos Verdes, Calif.) and junior
Graham Cartwright (La Jolla, Calif.) led off the inning with back-to-back singles, followed by a two-RBI triple to center by senior
Cory O'Shea (Glen Allen, Va.) to cut the margin to 3-2. The Engineers tied the game on an RBI double to left from sophomore
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) to plate O'Shea with the tying run.
Â
- In the bottom of the second, Suffolk put together seven hits and took advantage of a pair of MIT errors to put up eight runs and surge to the 11-3 advantage. The game stayed that way until the top of fifth when the visitors would again strike for a three-run inning. After a Schoenfeld leadoff triple to right center started the inning, he came home on an RBI groundout by sophomore
Tyler Godfrey (Rowley, Mass.). RBI hits by Anderson and Cartwright pulled the Engineers within 11-6 before the Rams got out of the jam.
Â
- The hosts added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to account for the 13-6 final.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Â
- Schoenfeld and Anderson each finished 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Cartwright and junior
Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) both added a pair of hits as the Rams outhit MIT 15-11.
Â
-
Luke Harder paced the Suffolk offense with a three-hit performance, while five players finished with multiple hits.
Â
- Junior
Matt Leonard (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss for MIT to drop to 0-1, while
Shawn Nosky was the winning pitcher with 2.2 innings of relief and is now 1-0 on the year.
Â
