Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Defeated by No. 1 Springfield, 3-0

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 1 Springfield - 3, MIT – 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18)

- Records: MIT (12-9), Springfield (24-1)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Rockwell Cage)

- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team fell in three sets to top-ranked Springfield College on Friday night at Rockwell Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Set 1: The Pride jumped out to a 12-9 lead before back-to-back kills from juniors Nicholas Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.) and Jack Yurkanin (New Lenox, Ill.) got MIT to within one. Springfield then scored five of the next seven to take a 17-13 lead. Out of an MIT timeout, the Pride scored eight of the next 12 points to win set one, 25-18.
 
- Set 2: Trailing 10-5, the Engineers slowly chipped away at the Springfield lead as a kill from junior Brett Allen (San Jose, Calif.) brought MIT to within three at 20-17. Springfield then went on a 5-1 run to win set two, 25-18.
 
- Set 3: Springfield jumped out to an early lead, pulling ahead 11-3. A kill from Allen got MIT to within five at 15-10 but the Pride held on and won the set by a final score of 25-18.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-   Allen led the Engineers with seven kills and junior Dylan Ryan (Oviedo, Fla.) and Gustafson each registered five.

- First-year Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Tommy Ogeka (Manorville, N.Y.) registered a team-high five digs each, and senior Bradley Albright (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added four.
 
- First-year Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) had a team-leading 13 assists with sophomore Max Turner (Chandler, Ariz.) adding seven.
 
UP NEXT:

- The Engineers will conclude the 2022 season tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match against NYU in Rockwell Cage. Before the match, MIT will recognize its three graduating student-athletes, Bradley Albright (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), Brett Allen (San Jose, Calif.) and Tommy Ogeka (Manorville, N.Y.)
