The Lead: Sophomore
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) set the MIT single-season home run record as the Engineers softball team swept Wheaton College on the road on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One
- MIT took an early 1-0 lead off a Lyons error followed by a two-RBI double to right by Pendowski that made it 3-0. An RBI groundout by first-year
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) later in the frame put the Engineers up 4-0.

- Junior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and first-year
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) put MIT up by six with an RBI single in the fifth.

- Wheaton stole home in both the fifth and sixth innings and an RBI single by
Sarah Pritchard cut the MIT lead in half. The home team put runners on second and third, but first-year
Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) got the final out of the inning to keep MIT in the lead.

- Wheaton got a two-out single up the middle in the seventh, but O'Connor got the final out to seal the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Senior
Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) earned her ninth win of the year going 5.2 innings allowing three runs and three walks while striking out five. O'Connor earned her second save as she pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing just two hits.

- First-year
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and Bivin led the Engineers with two hits in the game. Pendowski's two RBI in the game gives her a team-high 25.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two
- First-year
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) got MIT on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly, and it remained a one-run game until Pendowski's two-run homer over the left-field wall in the sixth.

- Wheaton made it a 3-1 game in the sixth on an RBI single by
Katelyn Barton, and the Lyons made it a one-run game in the seventh with a steal of home. A two-out single brought the winning run to the plate but Chase got a popup to secure the 3-2 win for MIT.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- With her home run Pendowski now holds the single-season record with five and increased her team-leading RBI total to 27 as she has tallied multiple RBI in the last four games for MIT.

- First-year
Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earned her first collegiate win as she pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one hit and one run. Chase pitched the last 1.2 innings to earn her first save of the season. She scattered four hits and allowed just one run with two Ks and no walks.

- MIT is back on the field tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 for another key NEWMAC road contest against Smith. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
