- The Lead: With a 20-9 victory over Emerson College on Saturday, the nationally-ranked No. 18 MIT men's lacrosse team captured the program's first NEWMAC regular season title and secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Engineers, who improved to 13-0 on the year and 5-0 in conference play, also broke the Institute record for wins in a season as the previous mark of 12 was set in 1969 and tied in 2015 and 2016. Sophomore Heath Nilsen (Carlsbad, Calif.) paced MIT's balanced attack with three goals and two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT outscored Emerson, 10-3, during the first quarter. Junior Tory Lentine (Flemington, N.J.) put the Engineers on the board after 51 seconds expired but the Lions quickly recorded the equalizer. MIT responded with a 9-2 run, including a string of five consecutive goals.

- The Engineers rattled off three goals during the first three minutes of the second stanza, increasing their advantage to 13-3. Lentine scored the first goal and earned an assist on the third as senior Liam Miller (Pasadena, Calif.) completed the hat trick. An exchange of goals followed with Nilsen finding the back of the net twice, moving the score to 15-5 at halftime.

- The third quarter was a balanced affair as both teams registered two goals.

- MIT had a 3-2 scoring edge in the fourth quarter with first-year Ethan Robertson (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) accounting for all three goals by the Engineers.
