The Lead: The MIT softball team dropped two games to No. 18 Babson on the road on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One
- In what was a pitcher's duel throughout first-year
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) broke the scoreless tie in the fifth with an RBI single to right to plate senior
Deborah Torres (Portage, Mich.).
Â
- Senior
Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) and the Engineers held the lead until the bottom of the sixth when the Beavers took advantage of a fielding error to plate a run and then scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk with two outs. First-year
Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) came in and got the final out to keep MIT within one.
Â
-
Moira O'Reilly retired MIT in order in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Â
- Chase suffered her seventh loss on the year going 5.2 innings allowing just three hits and two runs (none earned). She struck out seven and walked four.
Â
- O'Reilly got her 18th win with a complete game allowing just one run on four hits. She walked one and struck out six.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two
- Just like game one, runs were hard to come by as the teams entered the fifth tied at zero. Babson finally got to O'Connor in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs, the first on a throwing error and the second on an RBI double by
Sara Moore.
Â
- MIT looked to tie the game in the sixth with singles from first-year
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) but the Beavers held the Engineers scoreless and then retired MIT in order in the seventh to secure the win.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Â
- O'Connor suffered her fourth loss pitching 5.1 innings allowing 10 hits and three runs. She struck out three and walked none. Chase pitched the final .2 innings with one strikeout.
Â
-
Logan MacDonald got her 12th win pitching all seven innings allowing just five hits with no walks or strikeouts.
Â
- Adkison led MIT with two hits in the game.
