The Lead: A combined no-hitter in game one helped propel the MIT softball to a dominating doubleheader sweep of Emerson on Friday afternoon at Briggs Field. The combined no-hitter is the first since 2019 and is just the second-combined no-hitter in program history. In total, the Engineers have now thrown seven no-hitters with five of them coming since 2018.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One

- The Engineers scored three in the bottom of the first with sophomore
Rylie Spiegel (Bradenton, Fla.) knocking in junior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) on a double and coming around to score on a wild pitch.
Kennedy Adkison plated the third MIT run with an RBI groundout.

- Sell plated two with a double in the second and later scored on an error to give MIT a 6-0 lead. Sophomore
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Pa.) made it a 7-0 game with a double to center.

- Sell knocked in her third run of the game with an RBI single in the third followed by run-scoring hits from Pendowski and sophomore
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) that made it a 10-run game. Adkison drove in the 11th and 12th MIT runs of the game with a single to left-center.

Abby Shull (Cypress, Texas) plated the final Engineer run of the day with her single in the fourth that made it a 14-0 game.

- Senior
Anya Chase (Wells, Maine) and sophomore
Zoe Kuhlken (San Diego, Calif.) combined for the five-inning no-hitter. Chase went the first four allowing three walks and striking out four. Kuhlken struck out two of the three batters she faced in the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Engineers tallied 11 hits in the game including four doubles. The team also stole four bases in the contest.

- Sell finished the game with two hits and three RBI. Adkison also knocked in three runs during the game.

- Spiegel and Pendowski also recorded two hits in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two
- The Lions grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run home run by
Claire Overt. MIT responded in the bottom half of the frame as Pendowski led off on a triple and scored on an error. First-year
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) then singled home Relihan to tie the game.

- The Engineers took a 4-2 lead in the third as a Spiegel bunt and error allowed Sell to score followed by a double by first-year
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) that plated Relihan.

- Cable led off the fourth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by first-year
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) to increase the MIT lead to 5-2.

- Emerson got one back in the sixth on an RBI groundout, however, MIT responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Bivin, Spiegel, Bell, and Relihan all recorded RBI for the Engineers in the inning as the home team took a 10-3 lead.

- First-year
Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) retired Emerson in order in the seventh to seal her complete-game victory as the Engineers completed the sweep of the Lions.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- O'Connor finished the game allowing five hits and three runs while not allowing a walk. She struck out six Emerson batters in the contest.

- Cable led the way for MIT going 3-3 with two runs and an RBI in the game.

- Sell went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Â
- Bivin, Spiegel, and Bell all knocked in two runs in the game.

- MIT put up 13 hits in the game with seven being for extra bases (four doubles and three triples).
