The Lead: MIT's historic season came to an end when it fell to nationally-ranked No. 2 Rochester Institute of Technology, 22-3, in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The No. 13 Engineers saw three different players find the back of the net as they ended the season with an overall record of 17-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- RIT scored 1:41 into the game, sparking an 8-0 run during the first quarter. Sophomore
Heath Nilsen (Carlsbad, Calif.) put MIT on the board after 1:22 elapsed in the second quarter, however, the Tigers rattled off eight consecutive goals to enter halftime with a 16-1 advantage.

- The Engineers opened the scoring 48 seconds after the opening faceoff of the third quarter when senior
Liam Miller (Pasadena, Calif.) redirected a feed from classmate
Andy Shin (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.). RIT notched three more goals, moving the score to 19-2, but junior
Tory Lentine (Flemington, N.J.) found the back of the net with 1:47 on the clock.

- Although MIT had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal during the fourth quarter, the Tigers tacked on three goals for a 22-3 final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior
Andrew Johnson (Dover, Mass.) recorded three groundballs and two caused turnovers while classmate
Chris Perrino (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) posted three caused turnovers and two groundballs. Junior
Teddy Corcoran (Harrison, N.Y.) collected four groundballs followed by three from graduate student
Ryan Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y.). Junior
Andrew Palleiko (Hopkinton, Mass.) won seven of his 13 faceoff attempts while first-year
Matthew Sardis (Bernardsville, N.J.) went 6-of-14 on the faceoff "x" and scooped up three groundballs. In net, senior
Lukas Drexler-Bruce (Denver, Colo.) tallied 12 saves, four groundballs, and one caused turnover.

- This was the first meeting between both programs.

- The Engineers are currently ranked 13
th in the USILA/Dynamic Coaches Poll, 18
th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll, and 12
th in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll. RIT is No. 2 in the USILA Poll and No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse and Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Polls.

- The reigning NCAA national champions, the Tigers earned their 12
th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 23
rd overall. RIT has reached the quarterfinals 16 times, played in 11 national semifinal games, and advanced to the national championship game in 2013, 2017, and 2021.
