Garrett Robinson's Goal Helps Give Men's Soccer 1-0 Win over UMass Boston

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT - 1, UMass Boston - 0

- Records: MIT (1-3), UMass Boston (1-2-1)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field)

- The Lead: Junior Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) scored in the 76th minute to help give the MIT men's soccer team its first win of the year, as the Engineers defeated UMass Boston on Saturday evening on Roberts Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The first half was played in the UMass defensive zone with the MIT offense controlling the ball throughout the first 45 minutes of action. MIT put up nine shots in the half but could not get one past Qasim El-Ashkar.

- The Engineers continued to look for the first goal of the game, and that came at 75:05 as senior Will Seiple (Boulder, Colo.) sent a cross-field pass to a streaking Robinson who headed the ball into the back of the net to break the scoreless tie.

- Late in the game, the Beacons had an excellent scoring opportunity on a breakaway, but junior Lukas Hanson-Puffer (London, England) stepped out of the goal and applied pressure to force the shot off the mark, and MIT held on for the 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT took 18 shots with 10 on target while the Engineers' defense held the Beacons to three shots with one on net.

- UMass took five corner kicks in the match while MIT took four.

- The goal for Robinson was his first of the season.

- Hanson-Puffer earned his first victory of the season.

UP NEXT:

- MIT returns to action on Wednesday, September 14 as they will host Roger Williams at 7 p.m. on Roberts Field.
