- Location: Boston, Mass. (Franklin Park)

- The Lead: Led by five runners in the top 18 finishers, the No. 2 ranked MIT men's cross country team took part in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown at nearby Franklin Park. Both the men's and women's team competed in the Open Division in a combined race that took place over the five-kilometer course.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- First-year
Jared Steins (Chino Hills, Calif.) finished 12th overall with a time of 15:57 as he ran a 5:09 mile pace. Sophomore
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas), the 2021 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, was just one spot back in a time of 15:58 while junior
Raymond Brookman (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and junior
Cameron Kleiman (Austin, Texas) crossed in 17th and 18th place. Brookman ran a time of 16:01 over the 5K, while Kleiman finished at 16:05.

- Rounding out the top seven was sophomore
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) in 37th place and first-year
Jacob Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) in 38th as they each ran a time of 16:36. Cobb trailed Opsahl by a nine-second margin at the 3.1 kilometer before closing strong as they each averaged 5:21 per mile.

- The final three MIT runners were first-year
Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas), sophomore
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) and sophomore
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) as they crossed in 49th, 54th and 57th places, respectively. Glass ran a time of 17:11, followed by Ilerbaig-Bajona in 17:28 and Hassan at 17:48.

- MIT returns to action on Saturday, October 1st as the Engineers travel to the Pre-National Meet in Lansing, Mich. The race will take place at Forest Akers East Golf Course, which will later serve as the site of the 2022 NCAA Championship on November 19th.
