Engineers Drop Road Final at Clark in NEWMAC Opener

- The Lead: In the NEWMAC opener for both teams, the MIT men's basketball team dropped an 89-61 road final to Clark University on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 14-3 advantage over the opening 5:30 of the game following a three-pointer from Jordan Richard. A layup from MIT first-year Parker Spann (Omaha, Neb.) ended that run for Clark before the hosts embarked a 14-0 scoring spurt and led 28-5 with 8:10 left in the first half.
 
- The lead for the hosts swelled to as many as 33 at 45-12 before back-to-back threes from junior Micah Boone (Pike Road, Ala.) made it a 47-18 margin at the half.
 
- MIT outscored Clark by a 43-42 margin in the second period as the Engineers shot 48.4 percent from the field and knocked down six three-pointers in the half. MIT also forced 12 Clark turnovers over the final 20 minutes as the Cougars came away with the 89-61 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Sophomore Kade Killeen (Austin, Texas) led MIT with 23 points, including 17 points in the second half as he also added eight rebounds and three assists. Boone posted 11 points, along with 10 points and five rebounds from first-year Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) and a team-high 10 rebounds from sophomore Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.).
 
- Reid Neumann led Clark with 23 points, while Richard added 11 points and Kekoa McArdle posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
 
- The Engineers had 20 assists on 22 made field goals and forced 18 Clark turnovers for the game.
