- The Lead: After the MIT men's soccer team took a 2-0 lead, Emerson responded with two goals to tie the match as the two NEWMAC rivals played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon on Rotch Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior
Nathan Guntvedt (Santa Clara, Calif.) found graduate student
Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb.) for the early goal at 9:54.
- The Engineers increased their lead to two on the sixth goal of the year from
Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) at 48:21.
- Emerson began its comeback when
Aaron Tyler set up
Aidan Ferguson for the goal at 69:53. Just over a minute later at 70:44 a
Thomas Pelino goal tied the match at two.
- MIT put three shots on net in the final minutes as they looked for the winning score, but
Beckett Hobbs stopped them all as the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robinson increased his team-leading point total to 16.
- Novoa scored his third goal on the year while Guntvedt recorded his second assist.
- Senior
Lukas Hanson-Puffer (London, England) moved to 3-2-1 with four saves in the match.
- Hobbs turned away nine Engineer shots.
- Emerson outshot MIT 14-11, but the Engineers got all 11 shots on target while the Lions put six on cage.
- Both teams earned six corner kicks.
