Men's Soccer Defeated by No. 8 Babson, 2-0

THE BASICS:

- Score: Babson - 2, MIT - 0

- Records: MIT (6-5-2, 4-1-1 NEWMAC), No. 8 Babson (10-3-4, 5-0-1 NEWMAC)

- Location: Babson Park, Mass. (Hartwell-Rodgers Field)

- The Lead: The MIT men's soccer team suffered its first NEWMAC loss of the year as the Engineers dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to No. 8 Babson on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Both teams had their chances in the first 45 minutes of play, but neither team found the back of the net. Sophomore Ethan Reich (New York, N.Y.) had a scoring chance in the 39th minute, but his shot was turned away by Walker White.

- Alexander Yablonovskiy broke the scoreless tie just three minutes into the second half as he got past the MIT defender and placed a shot into the left side of the net for his second goal of the year at 48:37.

- The Engineers had an excellent chance to tie the match as a shot from senior Billy Menken (Woodbury, Minn.) was saved by White but senior Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) got the rebound in the penalty area but put the shot wide of the goal.

- Yablonovskiy scored his second of the game as he got the rebound of a shot off the crossbar by Robin Pestka at 62:36.

- A deflected ball found first-year Nico Mangiafico (Farmington, Conn.) who put a great shot to the right post, but White made the save as Babson took the 2-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Beavers held a 23-14 advantage in shots and put seven shots on goal while MIT had four on target.

- Corner kicks were almost even with the host holding a 4-3 advantage.

- In net for MIT, first-year Hernando Ardila (Miramar, Fla.) made five saves and fell to 3-1-0 on the year. White made four saves to move to 9-3-4.
