Football Rallies to Defeat Norwich, 29-26

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT: 29 Norwich: 26
 
- Records: MIT (3-5, 2-4 NEWMAC), Norwich (1-7, 0-5 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Steinbrenner Stadium)
 
- The Lead: Senior Brady Klein (Washington, Ill.) capped an 11-play, 66-yard drive by punching it into the end zone from one-yard out to score the game-winning touchdown with 6:10 left in the fourth quarter and lift the MIT football team to a 29-26 victory over Norwich University in NEWMAC action on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Klein and first-year Carson Phelps (Wichita, Kan.) formed a potent two-horse attack on the ground, combining to rush for 221 yards to lead the Engineers to their second conference victory of the season. Klein also added 101 yards through the air and another touchdown to account for 194 all-purpose yards.
 
- Klein opened the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown reception from Chase Harmon (West Linn, Ore.) with 54 seconds left in the first quarter. Brandon Eickert (St. Charles, Ill.) added the PAT kick to put the Engineers out front 7-0.
 
- Norwich responded with 10:42 left in the second quarter on a 6-yard touchdown rush from quarterback Ryan O'Keefe to cut the deficit to 7-6.
 
- MIT added to its lead just under four minutes later with Harmon hooking up with Michael Dennison (Beaufort, S.C.) for an 8-yard touchdown pass to push the lead up to 14-6 following an Eikert PAT kick.
 
- Norwich opened the second half and seized momentum with two touchdowns to go ahead 19-14. Trevor Chase had a 27-yard touchdown reception while Justin Bryant scored on a 4-yard run to give Norwich its first lead of the game.
 
- MIT responded just 59 seconds later though with Phelps ripping off a 56-yard touchdown run to give the Engineers the lead again. Dennison caught the two-point conversion to give the Engineers a 22-19 lead.
 
- Norwich marched down the field with a 10-play, 62-yard touchdown drive, capped off by Will Thornton's 25-yard touchdown reception from Riley Geyer that gave the Cadets a 26-22 lead.
 
- Sophomore Stephen Schulze (Finksburg, Md.) led MIT with 10 tackles on the day. Sophomore Chase Williams (Missoula, Mont.) added seven tackles as well for the Engineers.
 
- Jeremy Henault led Norwich's defense with eight tackles. AJ Aldrich and Eli Leblanc each recorded a sack for the Cadets.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT outgained Norwich 407-365 in total offense. Norwich won the time of possession battle 34:32-25:28. MIT had one fumble and one fumble lost for the only turnover of the game.
 
- Harmon finished 11-for-13 for 196 yards and two touchdowns through the air for MIT.
 
- O'Keefe was 14-for-26 for 187 yards and one touchdown for Norwich. Justin Bryant also chipped in with 105 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown on the ground for the Cadets.
 
UP NEXT:

- The Engineers have a bye week next week and will conclude their season on Saturday, November 11 for Senior Day against WPI.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
