- The Lead: In its last regular season home match, the MIT men's soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 setback to Wheaton on Saturday night on Roberts Field. With the loss, MIT secured the fourth seed in the NEWMAC and will host a quarterfinal match on Tuesday.

Before  the match the Engineers honored their five seniors: Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.), Zachary Zhang (Bellevue, Wash.), Billy Menken (Woodbury, Minn.), Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.), and Lukas Hanson-Puffer (London, England).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Alberto Franceschi recorded his third goal of the season as he collected a loose ball in front of the MIT net and found the back of the net at 12:32.

- Graduate student Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb.) found first-year Dilin Meloni (Needham, Mass.) who rifled a shot from outside the box into the left corner of the goal to even the match at 23:03.

- Wheaton scored two goals in the second half to go up 3-1. Ryan Bell sent a long pass down the field to Luke Strange at 58:52, and Strange lifted the ball over MIT goalkeeper Hanson-Puffer's outstretched hands. Franck Onguene beat out his defender for his first goal of the season at 75:26.

- Off a corner kick from sophomore Ethan Reich (New York, N.Y.), first-year Garrett Dyson (South Orange, N.J.) ran into the front of the goal and headed the ball into the back of the net at 83:33 to get the Engineers to within one, but MIT was unable to score again to tie the match as Wheaton escaped with the 3-2 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Meloni and Dyson each tallied their second goals of the season.

- Shots were even with both teams recording 12 in the match. MIT held a slight edge with nine shots on goal to Wheaton's eight.
