- The Lead: With the top five separated by just a 36-second margin on Saturday morning, the No. 8 ranked MIT men's cross country team finished first out of 38 teams at the Pre-National Meet that was hosted by Dickinson College. The Engineers, the defending NCAA National Champions, finished the meet with 71 points to defeat No. 5 Williams by a 15-point margin. Overall, MIT defeated three top-10 teams (including No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer) and seven ranked among the top-20 in the nation.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Graduate student
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) finished in fifth place overall in a time of 24:58 over the eight-kilometer course, registering a pace of 5:01 per mile. Graduate student
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) also landed in the top 10 as he crossed in seventh place in 25:04.9. Graduate student and 2022 All-American
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) was next up in 13th with a time of 25:14.6, followed by fellow All-American
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) in 14th in 25:17.6.

Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) rounded out the scoring runners for the Engineers with a time of 25:34.1. Sophomore
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) was the sixth MIT finisher in 48th place with a time of 25:46.8, followed by first-year
Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) in 61st place in 25:56.8.

- MIT returns to action on Saturday, October 14th as the Engineers travel to Waterford, Conn. for the Connecticut College Invitational. The men's race begins at 10 a.m., followed by the women's race at 11 a.m.
