- Records: No. 18 MIT (25-4, 8-2 NEWMAC), Babson (23-4, 9-1 NEWMAC)

- The Lead: The No. 18 MIT women's volleyball team fell to Babson College, 25-12, 19-25, 25-17, 27-25, in NEWMAC action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Set 1: After a back-and-forth start, Babson slowly pulled away before going on a 13-2 run which resulted in a 25-12 win.

- Set 2: The Beavers jumped out to a 5-1 lead which moved to 7-3. Sparked by a kill from senior Consecrata Rozario (Cary, N.C.), MIT put together a 10-1 run to go ahead for good. The Engineers maintained a small cushion throughout the set, which they eventually won, 25-19, on a kill by sophomore Claire Underwood (Yorba Linda, Calif.).

- Set 3: The third set was closely played as there were 10 ties and five lead changes. Knotted at 17, miscues by MIT along with a kill led to a string of eight unanswered points for Babson.

- Set 4: The fourth set was another tight affair as it featured 13 ties and four lead changes. A kill by junior Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.) gave the Engineers a 23-22 lead, however, a serving error kicked off an exchange of points until a kill gave the Beavers a 26-25 edge. The hosts then captured the victory courtesy of a block.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Underwood paced MIT with 14 kills and added four blocks while Rozario and Keller finished with nine and seven kills, respectively. Senior Emily Cheng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) totaled 38 assists and 18 digs as sophomore Ali Gibbs (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) posted five blocks. Junior Ottavia Personeni (Bethesda, Md.) registered 18 digs, followed by 14 from sophomore Daphne Gavros (Bel Tiburon, Calif.), 11 by junior Ella Gragg (Morganton, N.C.), and 10 from senior Ashley Margetts (Brownsburg, Ind.).
