Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) and
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) earned All-American honors to lead the No. 4 ranked MIT men's cross country team to an eighth place finish and a team score of 274 points at the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Acquaviva traveled the 8,000-meter course with a time of 24:52 to finish in 23rd place, while Hensgen was 30th in a time of 24:58. Acquaviva finished his MIT cross country career with his third All-American honor, while it was Hensgen's first. They became the 29th and 30th MIT men's cross country All-Americans in program history.

Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) was 41st overall in a time of 25:10, while graduate student
Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) was 109th with a time of 25:47. First-year
Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) rounded out the top-five scoring runners in 150th place with a time of 26:00.
- Senior
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) was MIT's first displacement runner in 263rd place with a time of 26:54. Junior
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) finished in 283rd place in a time of 27:30 to round out the Engineer runners.
- Saturday's meet marked MIT's 10th straight NCAA Division III National Championship team appearance.
- Pomona-Pitzer won the team title by one point with 158 points over UW-La Crosse. North Central finished third with 169 points.
