- The Lead: The MIT men's basketball team suffered a 97-67 non-conference road defeat to Salem State on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Engineers opened the game with three-straight threes as first-year
Isaac Dobie (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) gave MIT an early 9-4 lead. Salem St. used a 6-1 run to tie the game at 10 at the 15:32 mark in the first, but the Engineers responded with an 8-0 run capped by a layup from first-year
Will Bland (Virginia Beach, Va.) to go up 18-10.

- A layup from
Thomas Fanara at 9:28 gave the Vikings a 21-20 lead that they built to an 11-point lead on a jumper from
Nicholas Martinez with 1:26 left in the half and they would end the first 20 minutes of action with a 41-33 lead.

- Senior
Luke Wagner (Austin, Texas) hit a three to cut the Vikings lead to eight at 18:38 in the second, but Salem St. did not let MIT get any closer as they used an 8-0 run to take a 66-44 lead and went on to win by a 97-67 score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bland led MIT with 21 points, and sophomore
Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) added nine. Dobie finished with nine points, and first-year
Merlin Gogolin (New York, N.Y.) added eight. Ten different Engineers scored in the game.

- Junior
Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Gogolin led MIT with seven rebounds each.

- Martinez led all scorers with 21 points followed by
Jaden Castillo with 19.
Michael Makiej finished with a double-double as he scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
