Men's Basketball Comes Up Short in NEWMAC Matchup at Springfield

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: Springfield College 91, MIT 74
 
- Records: MIT (3-15, 1-8 NEWMAC); Springfield College (6-14, 3-6 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Springfield, Mass. (Blake Arena)
 
- The Lead: In a NEWMAC contest on Wednesday night at Springfield College, MIT men's basketball fell to the Pride by a 91-74 final score at Blake Arena.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- MIT seized a 15-7 advantage with 12:30 left in the first following a three-pointer from first-year Rome Delgado-Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.). The two teams traded baskets before Springfield embarked on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes as the Pride had a 25-20 lead after layup from Panayiotis Kapanides at the 7:25 mark.
 
- A Springfield three-pointer by Daryl Costa pushed the lead up to double digits for the first time at 32-22 as the Pride eventually took a 44-34 lead at the halftime break.
 
- MIT kept the margin within reach in the second half, cutting things to 12 at 83-71 on a three-pointer by first-year Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) before the Pride held off the Engineers with a closing run for the 17-point victory.
  
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Minicozzi posted a season-high 29 points to go along with six rebounds and six three-pointers made. Delgado-Gonzalez added 19 points and seven boards, with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds by sophomore Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.).

- Costa led all scorers with 30 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field for the Pride, along with 14 points from Kapanides and 17 points off the bench by Josiah Evely.
