- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to No. 15 Rutgers-Newark in the consolation match of the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic on Saturday night on the campus of Springfield College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Set 1: The two teams were locked in tightly in the opening set with the Raiders holding the lead throughout. Down 17-13, MIT used a 6-3 run to get to within one, and back-to-back Rutgers-Newark errors brought the match even at 21. Tied at 22, the Raiders went on a 3-0 run to close the opening set.

- Set 2: After a service error from Rutgers-Newark tied the match at five, the Raiders used a 6-1 run to pull ahead 11-6. Senior Troy Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.) got MIT to within three with an ace to make it a 13-10 set. The Raiders continued to hold off the Engineers, eventually building a 21-16 lead to force an MIT timeout. Kills from sophomore Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Nick Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.) made it a 22-18 set, but Rutgers-Newark held on for the 25-19 win.

- Set 3: After a Gustafson kill gave MIT a 4-1 lead, the Raiders rattled off five-straight points before another kill from Gustafson stopped the run. Rutgers-Newark built an 18-12 lead on a 7-3 run and went on to win the set 25-17.
