- The Lead: The MIT softball team opened the 2023 season with a road sweep on Salve Regina on Friday afternoon. The wins were the first in the head coaching career of Engineers' head coach
Madison Sullivan.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:

- MIT put the first three batters on in the top of the first and a walk to senior
Abby Shull (Cypress, Texas) forced in the first run of the day for the Engineers. A double from first-year
Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) plated two more runs for the Engineers in the frame.

- Salve Regina led off the top of the first with a walk, but first-year
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got out of the inning.

- RBIs from senior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) and sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) put MIT up 5-0 and added two more in the seventh on a Bivin double and a sacrifice fly from Scarpaci. Â

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Langmeyer notched her first collegiate victory with the complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and struck out five.

- Sophomore
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) led MIT with three hits in the game as the Engineers collected nine as a team.

- Shull and Scarpaci knocked in two runs each to lead the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:

- MIT once again took a quick lead as sophomore
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) led off with a double and came around to score on a Cable triple. Cable later came around to score on a single from Bivin.

- The home team got a run back in the second, but MIT responded with two in the third on a double from junior
Rylie Spiegel (Rumson, N.J.).
Â
- Two Salve runs in the fourth cut the MIT lead to run but Langmeyer came into the game in relief and shut the door on the home team's comeback attempt.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Graduate student
Deb Torres (Portage, Mich.) got the win as she pitched four innings and allowed four hits and three runs. Langmeyer earned the three-inning save as she gave up no hits and struck out five.

- Cable led the way for MIT with two hits.
