Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.), the MIT softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Thomas College in the home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers picked a 19-0 win in game one, followed by a 12-1 victory in game two.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers struck for three runs in the first inning behind a two-RBI single to left from Bivin to go along with an RBI single up the middle by sophomore
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.). Bivin and the Engineers added to the lead on a deep two-run homer to left field, along with RBI hits from senior
Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas) and sophomore
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.).

- The big inning for MIT came in the fourth as the Engineers scored 11 runs behind 10 hits, including six runs before the Terriers recorded an out. Bell singled to right center to drive in two runs in the frame, along with a two-RBI single to left by senior
Abby Shull (Cypress, Texas) and an RBI double to left from first-year
Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.).

- Langmeyer was outstanding over her five-inning outing, registering eight strikeouts en route to her first career collegiate no-hitter.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT picked up 21 hits on the day, just two hits shy of the single-game school record of 23 that was set in 1983. Adkison, Bivin, Bell, Shull and Samuelsen recorded three hits apiece, while Bivin and Bell combined for six runs scored and eight runs batted in.

Megan Oberholzer took the loss for the Terriers to fall to 1-2 on the season as she allowed 11 hits and eight runs over three innings pitched.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT got off two a hot start in game two as well with a four-run inning behind four hits that included a two-RBI double to center field from Bivin. The Engineers scored runs in all four innings, including a four-run third behind a two-RBI double to left by sophomore
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.).

- Samuelson drove in two in the bottom of the fourth for the 11-0 lead, while first-year
Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) picked up a pinch-hit RBI single for MIT's final run.
Cheyenne Simpson singled to center to score
Katy McIntyre for Thomas in the top of the fifth to account for the 12-1 final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Cable was one of three players with two hits each as she also drove in a game-high three runs. Kennedy and Samuelsen each scored twice in game two as Samuelsen also drove in a pair.

Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) improved to 1-0 on the season as she scattered four hits over five innings for MIT.
Kelsey Currier took the loss for Thomas as she is now 2-4 overall on the year.
