- The Lead: The MIT softball team's bats came alive in the late stages of both games against Muhlenberg as the Engineers opened their Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep of the Mules on the road on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:

- The pitching held both teams scoreless until the Engineers scored an unearned run on the fifth as senior
Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas) scored the game's first run. The Mules responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from
Kaitlyn Buurman.
Â
- Samuelsen gave MIT the lead back in the top of the seventh with an RBI single and came around to score on another Muhlenberg error to give the Engineers a 3-1 lead. Sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) doubled home two more runs to make it a four-run lead.
Â
- The home team looked to rally in their last at-bat when
Kersti Svenningsen singled home a run with no outs to make it a 5-2 contest.
Sophia Cicchetti then stole home, but first-year
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got the next three outs to give the Engineers the win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Bivin led the way for MIT going 2-4 with two RBI.
Â
- Langmeyer moved to 3-0 on the season as she finished the day with two hits and one run in seven innings of work with nine strikeouts.

Raya Kunes fell to 2-3 for Muhlenberg as she also pitched seven innings allowing six hits, five runs (four earned) with two strikeouts and four walks. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:
Â
- Muhlenberg got on the board first with a solo home run by
Sara Fallon in the third.
Â
- Sophomore
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) doubled home senior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) to tie the game and came round to score the go-ahead run on a single from junior
Rylie Spiegel (Rumson, N.J.).
Â
- Sell added an insurance run in the seventh with her first home run on the season. Svenningsen led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to left but sophomore
Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) shut the door to secure the MIT win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- O'Connor moved to 2-0 with her seven-inning, six-hit performance. She allowed just one run with no walks and three strikeouts.

- Sell went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the team.

Justine Bergara fell to 1-4 on the season as she went 5.1 innings allowing five hits, two runs (one earned) with two walks and two strikeouts.
