- The Lead: On a blustery Monday afternoon, the MIT baseball team dropped an 11-2 final to Rhode Island College in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Anchormen struck for three runs in the first inning as
Cal Parrilo doubled to right center to drive in three for the early lead. RIC added another run in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-0 margin before MIT answered with two runs in the top of the fourth.

- In the fourth, senior
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) homered to left for his first home run of the year, along with an RBI double from senior
Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) that drove in senior
Graham Cartwright (La Jolla, Calif.) to cut the lead in half to 4-2.

- The Anchormen stretched the lead out to 7-2 in the fourth with home runs from
Lucas Pierce and
Daniel Trzepacz, followed by a pair of runs in both the sixth and eighth innings to account for the 11-2 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore
Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) took the loss for MIT to fall to 0-2 as he allowed six hits and four earned runs over four innings with six strikeouts.
Terry Murray threw five innings of hitless relief with seven strikeouts to earn the win and move to 1-1 for the Anchormen.
