The Lead: The No. 31 MIT men's tennis team opened up NEWMAC play with a decisive 7-2 victory over No. 32 Coast Guard on the DuPont Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Engineers took a 2-1 lead after doubles as junior
Sundeep Chakladar (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and sophomore
Wayne Nelms (Baltimore, Md.) earned an 8-2 win in two doubles and senior
Daniel Papacica (Carmel, Calif.) and junior
Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) took three doubles by an 8-1 score.

- MIT won the top two spots in singles play led by junior
Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) who took a three-set victory over
Myles Decoste (2-6, 6-2, 10-8) in the top spot. Senior
Derek Shen (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) followed with a straight-set win over
Charles Norman.

- Courts 4-6 belonged to MIT with sophomore
Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.), senior
Benji Grossman (Sands Point, N.Y.), and Chakladar all winning in straight sets.

- The Engineers head out on the road as they travel to Middletown, Conn. to take on No. 16 Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 23. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start. Â
