Ryan Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) powered the Engineers' offense with five goals and four assists.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- Senior
Andrew Palleiko (Hopkinton, Mass.) set up Gebhardt for the opening goal and then Roger Williams evened the score at the 9:57 mark. The score remained unchanged until MIT rattled off three goals during the last 2:43. First year
Garrett Campagna (Lancaster, Pa.) connected on a feed from first year
Bryce Metalios (Riverside, Conn.). A minute later, senior
Tory Lentine (Flemington, N.J.) scored on a pass from sophomore
Heath Nilsen (Carlsbad, Calif.) while Gebhardt quickly buried an unassisted marker.
Â
- The Engineers increased their lead to 6-1 after early strikes by Metalios and sophomore
Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) in the second stanza. The Hawks ended their scoring drought with back-to-back goals, including a man-up blast. MIT replied with a three-goal burst, which featured two goals by Gebhardt and one from Metalios. RWU countered with two goals, narrowing the gap to 9-5 at halftime.
Â
- Metalios redirected a feed from Gebhardt just over four minutes into the third quarter and then first year
Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.) increased the Engineers' advantage at the nine-minute mark. A defensive battle ensued until the Metalios-Gebhardt connection returned with 2:42 on the clock. An exchange of goals followed, moving the score to 13-7 at the end of the period.
Â
- MIT generated a 4-1 run during the first 3:42 of the fourth quarter to help it put the game out of reach before going on to capture an 18-10 victory.
