Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Tops Trinity, 19-15

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 19, Trinity College 15

- Records: MIT (8-2); Trinity (4-5)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead: A seven-goal run that spanned the first and second quarters gave MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat Trinity College, 19-15, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Saturday. Sophomore Nick Stiles (New Canaan, Conn.) powered the Engineers with seven goals and an assist while Jon Krikorian and Ryan Werner both recorded two goals and two assists for the Bantams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After a flurry of offense during the first seven minutes of the game, Trinity took a 5-4 edge when Krikorian scored a man-up goal on a feed from Harrison Ike with 5:39 on the clock. The score remained unchanged until MIT rattled off three goals during the final 2:25 of the frame. First year Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.) notched back-to-back goals and then first year Bryce Metalios (Riverside, Conn.) set up Stiles in a span of eight seconds.

- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second stanza as they added four goals in the first seven minutes, increasing their lead to 11-5. Stiles scored twice while junior Jack McCordic (Medfield, Mass.) and first year Garrett Campagna (Lancaster, Pa.) both found the back of the net. Jack Almeida ended the Bantams' scoring drought at the 4:33 mark, setting off an exchange of goals which was capped by Metalios scoring with one second left and giving the hosts a 13-7 halftime lead.

- Early in the third quarter, Trinity narrowed the gap to four courtesy of goals by Dane Crowley and Almeida. MIT replied with a three-goal burst that moved the score to 16-9. Senior Tory Lentine (Flemington, N.J.) set up Campagna for a man-up goal and then 30 seconds later, Stiles notched the first of back-to-back goals. The Bantams responded with their own three-goal spurt with Werner being a factor in each goal. He assisted on Andrew Bailey's goal and then had unassisted tallies which brought Trinity within 16-12 with 1:32 on the clock. The Engineers countered with goals by Lentine and sophomore Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) during the last 27 seconds.

- McCordic set up Stiles for what proved to be MIT's final goal which came at the 11:48 mark of the fourth quarter. The Bantams went on to score three goals as Jay Ottomanelli started the run while Ethan Cobb netted the final two, both on feeds from Krikorian.
