No. 25 Softball and No. 8 Tufts Split Tuesday Twin Bill

THE BASICS:

- Scores:
Game 1: No. 8 Tufts - 5, No. 25 MIT - 1
Game 2: No. 25 MIT - 5, No. 8 Tufts - 4 (8 Innings)

- Records: MIT (19-2), Tufts (22-2)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Briggs Field)

- The Lead: In a Tuesday matchup featuring two top-25 teams entering with win streaks of 10 or more games and a combined record of 39-2, the No. 25 MIT softball team and the No. 8 Tufts Jumbos split the twin bill on Briggs Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:

- The Jumbos put up four runs in the fourth, with a Bela Jimenez double scoring two. First year Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got Michelle Adelman looking to end the frame.

- A single from junior Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove, Ill.) in the bottom of the inning cut the Jumbos lead to three, however, the visitors tacked on another run in the fifth to go back up four.

- The Engineers loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to get a run across. Sophomore Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) doubled to center with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but she was left stranded as the Jumbos took game one, 5-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

-  Langmeyer dropped to 10-1 on the season as she went all seven allowing four earned runs on 12 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

- Sophia DiCocco got the win for the Jumbos as she pitched five innings and allowed one run on six hits.

- Sophomore Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) led the Engineers offensively as she went 3-4 with a run scored. Pendowski finished 2-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:

- Bivin singled home sophomore Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) for the first run of the game, however, Tufts responded with a run in the second on a steal of home to tie the game.

- Three RBI hits from Pendowski, senior Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) and Cable put MIT up 4-1 in the fifth, but the visitors used a three-run sixth to tie the game.

- With darkness approaching the Jumbos looked to put the winning across as Kat Yuzefpolsky tried to score on an Adelman single to center, but Sell came up throwing and nailed Adelman at the plate. MIT went down in order to send the game to extras.

- Tufts got the go-ahead run on third, but Langmeyer was able to leave her stranded and give the Engineers one more chance at the walk-off win. With Adkison on third and two outs, Bivin laced a single to right to give MIT a thrilling 5-4 win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Sophomore Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) went the first six for MIT as she allowed four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Langmeyer got her 11th win with her two innings of three-hit work. Neither pitcher allowed a walk in the game.

- Adkison, Sell, and Bivin all recorded two hits in the game. With her two RBI in the game, Bivin now has 34 on the season which is six shy of the program record.
