- The Lead: The No. 25 MIT softball team split a road NEWMAC doubleheader against WPI on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:

- Sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) gave MIT a 1-0 lead as her single plated sophomore
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) who led the game off with a triple.
Â
- Adkison scored her second run of the game on a double from sophomore
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) to make it a 2-0 MIT lead.

- The home team rallied to tie the game in the fifth and loaded the bases, however, first year
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got
Emma Nagy swinging to keep the game tied.

- WPI loaded the bases again in the sixth, but Langmeyer worked out of the jam to keep the game tied. A bunt single from senior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) gave MIT the lead in the seventh and Cable put the visitors up two with a single to right. Langmeyer then retired WPI in order to secure the win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Â Langmeyer moved to 12-1 with the complete game win. She allowed two runs on five hits with seven Ks.

- Adkison, Cable, and first year
Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) all had two hits each in the game for MIT. Cable knocked in a team-high two runs in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:
Â
- WPI took a 2-0 lead early on, but MIT cut the lead in half on an RBI single from Cable in the third.
Â
- The host tacked on a run in the third, but MIT rallied with a three-run fifth on RBI from Cable, Bivin, and junior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) to go up 4-3. A Sell bunt single in the sixth gave MIT a 5-3 lead.

- A three-run seventh for WPI gave the host the walk-off win with the tying and winning runs crossing the plate on a single to right from
Gabi Cerbo.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Sell led the way offensively for MIT as she went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Ladd posted two more hits in game two as she finished 2-3 with two runs scored.

- Sophomore
Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) went the first 6.2 for MIT allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and one strikeout. Langmeyer took the loss (11-2) as she allowed one run on one hit with a walk and strikeout.

Sophia Togneri earned the win for WPI to improve to 5-8 on the season.
