No. 24 Softball Splits with Endicott; Bivin Sets New Program Record

THE BASICS:

- Scores:
Game 1: No. 24 MIT - 7, Endicott - 4
Game 2: Endicott - 2, No. 24 MIT - 2

- Records: MIT (23-4), Endicott (19-7)

- Location: Beverly, Mass. (Softball Complex)

- The Lead: Sophomore Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) set a new program record for RBI in a season as the No. 24 MIT softball team split a road non-conference doubleheader against Endicott on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE:

- MIT jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first as senior Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) came around to score on a Gulls throwing error on a single from sophomore Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.). Bivin followed with a two-run homer to left to put MIT up 3-0. The long ball gave her 42 RBI on the season to set the program record.

- Sophomore Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) doubled home senior Haley Samuelsen (Houston, Texas) to make it 4-0 in the second, and Samuelsen hit her second homer of the year to put MIT up 5-0 in the fourth.

- Endicott scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to cut the MIT lead to one, but Sell scored on a wild pitch in the seventh, and junior Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) doubled home Adkison to give MIT a 7-4 lead.

- The Gulls got runners on first and second with one out, but sophomore Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) came in and got Chloe Shapleigh to line into a double play to end the game.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Bivin now has 42 RBI on the year to rank seventh in the nation. She finished the day 1-4 with a run scored. Her home run was her fourth of the season.

- Cable, Samuelsen, Relihan, and first year Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) all recorded multi-hit games for the Engineers who boast a .352 team batting average.

- O'Connor earned her first save of the season as she came in for first year Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) who moved to 14-2 as she tossed 6.2 innings with nine hits, four runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. She now has 107 strikeouts in 99.2 innings of work this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO:

- The hosts got on the board in the first on an RBI single to right from Shapleigh. The Gulls looked to make it 2-0 in the second, but the Engineers executed a perfect relay to get throw Morgan Peryer out at home.

- Lindsay Joubert homered to right in the sixth to make it a two-run game and MIT went down in order in the seventh.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

- Jaylin Couto went all seven for Endicott and allowed just two hits with five strikeouts to improve to 8-3.

- O'Connor took the loss to fall to 7-1 as she pitched six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits. She struck out four and walked two.

- Cable and Bivin recorded the lone hits for MIT in the game.
