HOW IT HAPPENED WITH CLARK:

- The Cougars picked up a run in the bottom of the third for the 1-0 advantage, but that was all the MIT pitching staff would allow until the ninth inning. The Engineers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth after an RBI single to center from senior Graham Cartwright (La Jolla, Calif.) scored junior Tyler Godfrey (Rowley, Mass.), followed by junior Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) scoring on a wild pitch.

- Cartwright finished the game with four runs batted in and junior Kennan Gumbs (New York, N.Y.) drove in three in with a bases-clearing triple in the ninth to key a seven-run inning and put the game out of reach. Clark scored one in the bottom of the ninth, en route to the 13-2 final score as MIT outhit Clark by a 16-6 margin in the morning matchup.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore Jimmy Moore (Los Gatos, Calif.) improved to 2-1 on the season as he threw 4.1 innings of three-hit relief with eight strikeouts to pick up the victory to keep the season alive. Benjamin Spencer was the losing pitcher for the Cougars, giving up three hits and two runs in 4.2 innings to fall to 2-4 overall.

- Cartwright finished the game 4-for-4 with a career-high four runs batted in. Four other Engineers had multiple hits, including four runs scored by Schoenfeld and three driven in by Gumbs.

HOW IT HAPPENED AT WHEATON:

- A pair of Cavan Brady runs batted in gave Wheaton a 2-0 lead after three innings before the Engineers answered with a pair of runs in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.

- In the fourth, the Engineers mounted a two-out rally as first-year Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) singled through the left side and sophomore Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas) singled up the middle. That set the plate for Godfrey, who singled to right to bring home both runners to knot the game at 2-2.

- The score remained that way until the seventh when Brady's RBI single through the left side put the Lyons back up by a 3-2 score. The hosts scored five in the eighth, led by a two-RBI single from Matt Maher to secure the 9-2 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Godfrey ended the game 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Schoenfeld had two hits and two walks and Tubbs was also 2-for-4. Brady finished 3-for-3 for Wheaton, driving in four with one run scored and one walk drawn.

- Senior Matt Leonard (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss as he threw 7.1 innings to fall 1-2, while Jackson Walsh improved to 3-0 for Wheaton in 2.1 innings of hitless relief.
