- The Lead: For the second time in program history, the No. 21 MIT softball team captured the NEWMAC Tournament Championship as the Engineers rallied to defeat Springfield, 7-4. MIT entered the tournament as the top seed and allowed just six runs in their three wins in the tournament. With the win MIT, earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as she threw three complete games and allowed just six runs (three earned) with three walks and 16 strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
-  The Pride got to Langmeyer early as they opened the game with four-straight hits to take a 3-0 lead. MIT cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning with RBI from sophomore
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) and
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.).

- Springfield took advantage of an Engineer error in the second to plate its fourth run of the day.

- Junior
Rylie Spiegel (Rumson, N.J.) singled home sophomore
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif) in the bottom of the third to get MIT back to within one. Adkison then tied the game in the fourth with an RBI groundout.

- Sophomore
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) worked a walk and came around to score the go-ahead run on a double to right from junior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.). Senior
Jordan Sell (Schwenksville, Pa.) then laid down a beautiful bunt to score sophomore
Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif) and put MIT up 6-4.

- Langmeyer retired the Pride in order in the sixth, and Relihan added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI down the leftfield line.

- Langmeyer got the Pride in order in the seventh to seal the championship for the Engineers.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Langmeyer went the distance to improve to 19-4. She gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) with one walk and three strikeouts.

- Relihan led MIT as she went 3-3 with two RBI in the game. Sell and Bivin also posted multi-hit games.

Callie Gendron went 1-3 with two RBI for Springfield.
