Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Engineers came out quickly in the opening half as the Bantem defense blocked shots from junior
Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wis.) and senior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.).
Â
- Senior keeper
Morgan Everett (Danville, Pa.) turned away two Trinity shots in the first half to send the two top-25 teams into the second half of play tied at zero.
Â
- Trinity had a chance to score the first goal of the evening on a free kick but the shot by
Sadie Rudolph was turned away by Everett.
Â
- Off a Trinity throw-in, English stole the ball in MIT territory and moved through the Bantam defense and past midfield where she sent a pass to Rowlett who sent the ball across to Zareno for the decisive score at 80:27.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Shots were almost even between the two teams as MIT held a slight edge with 12 shots (seven on goal) to Trinity's 10 shots (six on goal). The Engineers held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
- Everett made five saves to move to 2-0-1 on the season and
Mariana Cournoyer turned away six MIT shots.
Â
- With the assist, Rowlett now has 10 career assists and 66 career points. The goal was the sixth in Zareno's career and gave her 20 career points.
