Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls to Endicott, 3-1

THE BASICS:

- Score: Endicott College 3, No. 12 MIT 1

- Records: No. 12 MIT (2-1); Endicott (2-1)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Jack Barry Field)

- The Lead: A pair of goals during the final eight minutes of regulation propelled Endicott College to a 3-1 victory over No. 12 MIT in a non-conference field hockey game on Wednesday night. The Gulls were led by Tori Swanson, who produced the first and third goals, while graduate student Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) recorded the lone goal for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Following a scoreless opening frame, Endicott ended the stalemate just 36 seconds into the second quarter. During a penalty corner, Swanson deflected a feed from Casey Halliday at the far post. MIT evened the score just over a minute later when junior Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.) sent a pass from the middle of the arc to Forester at the far post.

- The Engineers controlled the action in the third quarter as they had an 8-3 margin in shots on goal and a 4-3 edge in penalty corners. However, the game remained knotted at 1-1 heading into the final frame.

- With a two-player advantage and during its third consecutive penalty corner, Endicott reclaimed the lead in the 52nd minute. A pass by Jenna Seibold from the top of the arc was corralled by Lindsay Bruns in front of the goal who deflected it to the top of the cage. With a player advantage in the 56th minute, Swanson added an insurance goal when she collected the ball from Kathleen Reissfelder in the middle of the arc, spun around, and put a shot inside the near post.

- Both sides had opportunities to move the score but both defenses withstood the late charges.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- First year Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) collected seven saves for MIT while Endicott's Alexis DeMattia turned away 12 shots. In addition, Meghan Lehouiller had a defensive save for the Gulls.

- The Engineers led the way in shots (20-12) and shots on goal (14-10) while Endicott had a 12-11 edge in penalty corners.

UP NEXT:

- Both teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 with road games. MIT will travel to Western New England University for a 1:00 p.m. start while Endicott will visit WPI for a 3:00 p.m. game.
