HOW IT HAPPENED

- Set 1: Junior Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) tied the set at seven with a kill before the Saints went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. The Engineers hung around, and two kills from graduate student Nick Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.) and an ace from Oh cut the Marymount lead to 19-18. That's as close as the Engineers got in the set as the host took set one by a 25-20 score.

- Set 2: Marymount raced out to a quick 7-1 but a 3-0 MIT run that featured a service and attack error along with a Gustafson ace got MIT to within four. The Saints continued to hold onto the lead, and after a Gustafson kill made it 23-17, Marymount scored the next two points to win the set 25-17.

- Set 3: The Engineers took an early 4-2 lead before a 3-0 Marymount run gave the Saints the lead. A 3-0 run by MIT that featured kills from sophomore Ben Volokh (Studio City, Calif.), Oh and Gustafson put the Engineers back on top 10-9, but the Saints responded yet again, and the teams played a back-and-forth affair throughout the set. Back-to-back errors from the Saints gave the Engineers an 18-15 advantage. Marymount used a 3-0 run to regain the lead at 21-21 and used a 4-0 run to end the set with a 25-22 victory.
