- The Lead: Four members of the MIT men's basketball team scored at least 10 points, however, the Engineers dropped a 109-84 NEWMAC road contest to the United States Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Back-to-back threes from first-year
Mike Ewing (Mendham, N.J.) and sophomore
Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) cut the Bears' lead to 16-13, but Coast Guard used an 8-2 run to go up 24-15. First-year
Michael Zhang (Jacksonville, Fla.) then scored back-to-back buckets to make it a six-point game with 9:12 remaining in the half.

- A 7-2 run capped by a three from first-year
Isaac Dobie (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) made it 39-35 Coast Guard with 3:50 left in the first half, however, the Bears ended the half on a 13-4 run to take a 52-39 halftime lead.

- Coast Guard built a 17-point advantage early in the second half as they opened the second frame on a 5-1 run. Â First-year
Merlin Gogolin (New York, N.Y.) made it a 12-point game with his 17th point of the game at 12:25, but the Bears did not let MIT get the lead below double-digits as the home team won by a final score of 109-84.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Gogolin led the way for MIT with 23 points followed by Dobie with 20 points and a team-leading six rebounds.

- Junior
Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.) poured in 10 points and dished out a team-high six assists, while Bland finished with 11 points. The Engineers had nine different players record a point in the game.

- Coast Guard had three players score at least 20 points, led by
Mitch Shettles with 22,
Declan Rooney with 21, and
Luke Farrell with 20.
