Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats Emerson 2-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –  First year Shikhar Motupally (Avon, Conn.) scored twice to help lead the MIT men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Emerson on Roberts Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: MIT 2, Emerson 1
  • Records: MIT (7-7-1 Overall, 2-2-1 NEWMAC), Emerson (4-8-2 Overall, 0-2-1 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Motupally took a short pass from senior Nathan Guntvedt (Santa Clara, Fla.) and chipped the pass low and past Beckett Hobbs (Issaquah, Wash.) at 24:53.
  • Junior Kyler Maira (Acton, Mass.) tied the match early in the second half as he collected a 50/50 ball and put it into the goal at 46:21.
  • Graduate student Adam Snowdon (Lorton, Va.) sent a low cross into Motupally who shot the ball into the goal with his left foot at 53:41.
  • Sophomore Daniel Bede (Framingham, Mass.) had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but his shot was turned away by Hernando Ardila (Miramar, Fla.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Motupally now leads the team with eight goals, seven assists, and 23 points.
  • Ardila made two saves and is 4-4 on the year.
  • Hobbs made a season-best nine saves for Emerson and is 3-5-0 on the year.
  • Maira scored his first career goal.
UP NEXT: 
  • The Engineers wrap up the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday, October 26 with a 4:00 PM match against Babson. Prior to the event MIT will honor to its Senior class. Emerson will host Wheaton on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:00 PM.
