WORCESTER, Mass. -- The MIT women's openweight crew team opened the season in style at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday morning, claiming first and third in the Women's Collegiate Eights and the top spot on Lake Quinsigamond in the Women's Collegiate Fours.

THE BASICS: 

• Women's Collegiate 4+: 1st of 18 
• Women's Collegiate 8+: 1st, 3rd, and 15th of 26 

RACE BY RACE: 

• MIT earned its first medal of the day with a time of 00:17:53.371 in the Women's Collegiate 4+. The Engineers finished nine seconds ahead of Holy Cross in a race that saw the MIT women's lightweight team earn a bronze medal.  
• The Women's Collegiate 8 was a dominating 1-2-3 finish for MIT. The MIT "B" boat, the Openweight Varsity 8, finished with a time of 00:15:33.641 to win gold in the event. The MIT openweight Second Varsity 8 (MIT "C") finished just off the second-place pace established by the MIT lightweight crew team (MIT "A"), taking third with a time of 00:16:03.071.
• Also in the Women's Collegiate 8, MIT's 3V8 put in a very strong performance, jumping up to the middle of the pack to finish 15th with a time of 00:17:24.823.
