CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 4 MIT men's fencing team defeated No. 3 Brandeis University (15-12) but lost to host Boston College (14-13) and Harvard University (21-6) at the Beanpot on Wednesday night. Sophomore
Andy Zhang (Suwanee, Ga.) powered the foil team with a 7-2 record while senior
Wilson Zhu (Diamond Bar, Calif.) and junior
Surya Sakhamuri (Sharon, Mass.) both posted 5-4 marks to lead epee and sabre, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED – EPEE:
- The epee team posted a 9-18 record with its best performance being a 4-5 mark against BC.
- Wilson Zhu's 5-4 ledger featured 2-1 tallies versus BC and Harvard as well as a win against Brandeis.
- First-year Alec Zhang (Saratoga, Calif.) had a 2-4 outing as he defeated foes from BC and Harvard.
- Senior Patrick Xinyi Liu (Brookline, Mass.) went 2-7 as he picked up wins over Brandeis and BC.
- Sophomore Max Zhu (Diamond Bar, Calif.) lost all three of his bouts to Brandeis.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FOIL:
- The foil squad generated a 14-13 record, highlighted by wins over Brandeis (8-1) and BC (5-4).
- Andy Zhang defeated all three of his opponents from Brandeis and BC in addition to picking up a victory versus Harvard, en route to a 7-2 ledger.
- Junior Niles Liu (Bedford, Mass.) swept Brandeis and earned a win against BC as he finished with a 4-3 mark.
- Junior Henry Zhang (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished at 3-4 as he went 2-1 versus Brandeis and added a victory versus BC.
- Sophomore Michael Samuel (Philadelphia, Pa.) and first-year Ryan Chin (Austin, Texas) lost both of their bouts to Harvard.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SABRE:
- The sabre team produced an 11-16 ledger, including a 5-4 win over Brandeis.
- Sakhamuri's squad-best 5-4 record featured 2-1 performances against Brandeis and BC along with a win versus Harvard.
- First-year Zachary Tong (Marietta, Ga.) finished at 3-6 as he posted a 2-1 mark versus Brandeis and added a victory against BC.
- Senior Alex Harris (New York, N.Y.) went 1-2 against BC and Harvard for a 2-4 total.
- In his only outing of the night, first-year Eric Wang (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) posted a 1-2 record versus Brandeis.
