CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row, the MIT men's fencing team produced 14 Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Academic All-Conference Team qualifiers, once again tying the program record. In addition, the Engineers earned the team award for the sixth consecutive year.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference Team, a fencer must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the fall semester (or the grading period that ends by January in the case of a non-semester grading period), include two consecutive marking periods, and the fencer must be on the roster at least one semester (or marking term) of the current season.
For the team award, the average of the entire roster's cumulative GPA must be 3.3 or higher. In addition, every fencer on the roster at any point during the season is included in the team average GPA.
MIT Honorees
Smith collected his fourth award while Liu, Murphy, Sakhamuri, Xiao, and
Henry Zhang qualified for the third time.
Andy Zhang, meanwhile, was a repeat honoree.
