PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 4 MIT men's fencing team defeated Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) opponents No. 7 Vassar College (18-9), No. 13 (D1) Sacred Heart University (17-10), and No. 3 Brandeis University (18-9), but fell to non-conference foe Wayne State University (15-12) on Saturday at Brown University. Zachary Tong (Marietta, Ga.) paced the sabre unit with a 7-4 total to round out the Engineers.

- The epee team produced a 19-17 record, highlighted by a 7-2 result against Brandeis and a 6-3 mark versus Vassar.
- Liu's 8-4 record featured a 3-0 outing against Sacred Heart and 2-1 performances versus Vassar and Brandeis.
- First-year Rishi Shiv (Houston, Texas) won all three of his bouts against Brandeis and posted a 2-1 mark versus Vassar en route to a 6-6 total for the day.
- Senior Wilson Zhu's (Diamond Bar, Calif.) 2-2 total included a 2-1 showing versus Brandeis.
- First-year Alec Zhang (Saratoga, Calif.) went 3-5, highlighted by a 2-1 performance against Vassar.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FOIL:
- The foil squad compiled a 25-11 record, featuring 7-2 ledgers versus Vassar and Brandeis.
- Andy Zhang swept his opponents from Vassar, Wayne State, and Brandeis while going 2-1 against Sacred Heart.
- Junior Henry Zhang (Scarsdale, N.Y.) won all three of his bouts against Wayne State and posted 2-1 marks versus Vassar, Sacred Heart, and Brandeis for a total of 9-3.
- In his only outing of the day, senior Richard Lin (Melville, N.Y.) went 2-1 against Brandeis.
- Junior Tony Xiao (San Ramon, Calif.) finished at 3-6, highlighted by a 2-1 performance versus Vassar.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SABRE:
- The sabre team generated a 21-15 record, including an 8-1 total versus Sacred Heart and a 5-4 victory over Vassar.
- Tong's 3-0 performances against Vassar and Sacred Heart propelled him to a 7-4 ledger.
- Junior Surya Sakhamuri (Sharon, Mass.) went 6-6 on the day, highlighted by 2-1 marks against Sacred Heart and Wayne State.
- Senior Alex Harris (New York, N.Y.) won both of his bouts against Sacred Heart and picked up victories versus Vassar and Brandeis for a 4-0 total.
- First-year Eric Wang (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had a 4-5 record that featured a 2-1 performance against Brandeis and a win over Sacred Heart.
