No. 21 Men's Tennis Goes 1-1 Against Ranked Opponents Over the Weekend

THE BASICS: 

- Location: Cambridge, Mass (J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble) / Latham, N.Y. (Tri-City Fitness) 


- Scores:

No. 21 MIT - 7, No. 33 Vassar - 2 

No. 29 RPI - 5, No. 21 MIT - 4


- Records: MIT (1-1), Vassar (1-1), RPI (2-0)


- The Lead: The 21st-ranked MIT men's tennis team opened its spring season with a dominant victory against No. 33 Vassar on Saturday but dropped a 4-5 road contest to No. 29 RPI on Sunday.


HOW IT HAPPENED vs. VASSAR


- The Engineers won all three doubles and four out of six singles as the Brewers grabbed No. 2 and No. 5 singles.  


- First-years Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) and Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) captured the first win of the match for MIT with an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles.    


- After his dominant win in No. 3 doubles, Sun secured the first singles win of the day over Eugene Lee (Chico, Calif.) 6-1, 6-3 in No. 4 singles, and senior Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) secured a win in No. 1 singles with a score of 7-5, 6-3.  


- First year Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) secured the last win of the day with a score of 6-1, 6-4 over Henry Zhang in No. 6 singles to complete the 7-2 win. 


HOW IT HAPPENED vs. RPI


- RPI took wins in one and two doubles as first-years Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) and Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) won third doubles, defeating Bryce Burnham and Jonathan McMillan with a final score of 8-6. 


- First-year Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) defeated Burnham in No. 4 singles after dropping the opening set 5-7 and winning the next two 6-4, 6-2. 


- Sun and Marathe individually defeated their opponents in two straight sets. In No. 5 singles, Sun defeated Joel McCandless with a score of 6-4, 6-2. In No. 6 singles, Marathe defeated Sid Srinivasan with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

- MIT will host Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday, February 24th at 1 p.m. in the J.B Carr Tennis Bubble.
