The Lead: The No. 17 MIT softball team scored 29 runs in a split of its games against Kalamazoo and Colby on Monday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. KALAMAZOO
- MIT put up eight runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a three-run homer over the leftfield wall by senior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.).

- The Engineers followed that with a 12-run second inning to secure the win. First-year
Arianna Kumar San Diego, Calif.) had three RBI in the inning and junior
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) had a bases-clearing double to center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Every MIT starter recorded a hit.

- Cable, Kumar, and sophomore
Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had three hits in the game. Kumar and Relihan led the way with four RBI in the game.

Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) went the first two innings and allowed two hits with one walk and two Ks. Junior
Katie Katsuyama (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) got the win as she followed with two innings of no-hit ball.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. COLBY
- Colby loaded the bases in the top of the second, but the Engineers got two force-outs at home to keep the game scoreless. The Mules then scored six runs to take the lead.

- MIT quickly responded with four runs in the bottom of the second. Sophomore
Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.) singled home the first, run and Cable hit a bases-loaded single to plate two. First-year
Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) then singled home Hines for the fourth run.

- Colby tacked on five more runs to pull ahead 11-4 going into the bottom of the fourth. Adkison then tripled home two runs to make it a five-run game.
Â
- Cable made it a four-run game with an RBI single in the fifth, and Scarpaci tripled home two runs in the sixth to make the score 11-9.
Â
- The Mules then added three runs in the seventh and held on for the 14-9 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Cable went 3-5 with three RBI. Scarpaci also added three hits and knocked in two runs.

- The teams combined for 23 runs and 28 hits.

UP NEXT:
- Â MIT is off tomorrow and will return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 27th with a 10 a.m. game against Kalamazoo followed by a 12:15 p.m. game against Gustavus Adolphus. Â
