The Lead: The No. 14 MIT softball team split its games on Wednesday afternoons as the Engineers rebounded from a 9-4 defeat to Kalamazoo to defeat Gustavus Adolphus, 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. KALAMAZOO
- Kalamazoo took an 8-0 lead after the first two innings.

Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) doubled to center to plate junior
Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) for the first run of the day for MIT. Johnston then scored on an error to make it 8-2.

- The Hornets added a run in the fifth on an RBI double to go up 9-2.

- Sophomore
Kara Hines (Cynthiana, Ky.) hit a bases-loaded double to make it a four-run game, but the Hornets held off the Engineers for the win.

Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) led the way with two hits each in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS
- Johnston opened the scoring for MIT as she took home on a wild pitch. The Gusties tied the game in the third on an RBI double.

- MIT regained the lead on an error in the third and a three-run fourth helped seal the win. Sophomore
Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled home a run while
Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) and Johnston each recorded RBI singles.

Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) left runners on second and third to seal the 5-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Langmeyer moves to 3-0 on the season as she went the full seven innings. She allowed just six hits and one walk with seven Ks.

- Johnston and Scarpaci each finished with two hits in the game.
