Softball Ends Spring Break Trip With Wins over Colby and Gustavus Adolphus

- Records: No. 14 MIT (8-2), Gustavus Adolphus (6-12), Colby (8-6)

- Location: Clermont, Fla.

- The Lead: The No. 14 MIT softball team ended its Spring Break with two wins on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers opened the day with an 11-2 win over Colby and followed with a 5-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus. The Engineers ended the trip with a 6-2 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. COLBY

- Colby took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning, but those would be the last runs the Mules would score against sophomore Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and the Engineers.
 
- MIT scored eight runs in the second. Senior Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), junior Kennedy Adkison (San Diego, Calif.), and sophomore Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) all knocked in a run while junior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Calif.) knocked in two.
 
- Cable doubled home another run in the third while junior Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) hit a two-run triple to secure the 11-2 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Langmeyer moved to 3-0 as she threw five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. She walked three and had eight strikeouts.
 
- Cable, Adkison, and first year Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) all had two hits in the game. Cable led the way with three RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS

- The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Cable scored on a wild pitch. Bivin then hit a sacrifice fly to score first year Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) to make it a 2-0 MIT lead.
 
- Adkison singled to center in the fourth to score two, and senior Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) singled home Bivin for the fifth run of the day in the fifth inning.
 
- GAC executed a double steal for their sole run of the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas) tossed seven innings of four-hit ball for her third win of the day. She walked one and struck out three.
 
- Adkison led the way with three hits and two RBI while Johnston and junior Dana Bell (Bensalem, Pa.) added two each.
 
UP NEXT:

-  MIT opens NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 30th when they welcome WPI to Briggs Field for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
