Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

No. 15 Men’s Volleyball Blanks SUNY Poly, 3-0

THE BASICS:

- Scores: No. 15 MIT 3, SUNY Poly 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-17)

- Records: MIT (15-6); SUNY Poly (12-13)

- Location: Utica, N.Y. (Wildcat Field House)

- The Lead: The MIT men's volleyball team swept the Wildcats of SUNY Poly, 25-21, 25-14, 25-17, in a non-conference road match on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Set 1: SUNY Poly took control for most of the set. Trailing 19-15, the Engineers took their first lead of the set by scoring six straight points. After the Wildcats tied it up at 21-21, MIT would score four straight as a kill from junior Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) would give the Engineers the first set.

- Set 2: The second set was all MIT as the Engineers would break it open, registering a five-point run after leading 9-6. From there, SUNY Poly could not gain any momentum to turn the set around as a kill from graduate student Nick Gustafson (San Diego, Calif.) sealed the second set, 25-14.

- Set 3: After the set was tied early on at 3-3, the Engineers used a quick 4-0 run to regain the same momentum from the last set and would never look back as they led the entire way and eventually completed the sweep, 25-17.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Gustafson had a match-high 16 kills to pace the Engineers offensively. Senior Max Turner (Chandler, Ariz.) led the match with 19 assists and junior Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) was right behind him with 12 assists. Sophomore Kevin Windisch (Placentia, Calif.) led MIT with seven digs.

- This was the second meeting between both programs and the first since 2010, which the Engineers also won in three sets.

UP NEXT:

- MIT returns to UVC action tomorrow in Rochester, N.Y. to take on No. 6 St. John Fisher at 6:00 pm.
