The Lead: After seeing its late-game rally fall short in game one, the No. 14 MIT softball rallied from down seven to earn a thrilling walk-off win in game two to split the opening NEWMAC contests with visiting WPI.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME ONE
- The NEWMAC rivals were locked in a pitcher's duel until
Emma Nagy helped herself with a grand slam over the left field wall in the sixth.

- After leaving the bases loaded in the fifth, MIT got a run off Nagy in the bottom of the sixth, but Nagy got out of another bases-loaded jam to keep WPI in the lead.

- With one out, juniors
Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) and
Mackenzie Bivin (San Diego, Calif.) hit back-to-back singles and scored on a double to center by first year
Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) to make it a one-run game. MIT worked back-to-back walks to load the bases, but
Shaina Lazar got the final out to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore
Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) suffered her first loss on to fall to 4-1. She tossed seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits. She struck out five and walked none.

- Adkison and senior
Katia Pendowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) had two hits each in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. GAME TWO
- WPI raced out to a 7-0 lead after four innings.

- After
Dana Bell (Bensalem, PA.) scored the first run of the day for MIT on an error, sophomore
Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) crushed a ball over the left field wall to make it a 7-5 game in the fifth.

- Pendowski singled home Bivin in the sixth to make it a one-run game. Senior
Mackenzie Relihan (Naperville, Ill.) then doubled home the tying run, and first-year
Nicole Johnston (St. Charles, Ill.) singled home the go-ahead run to give MIT its first lead of the day.

- WPI tied the game with an RBI single, but Langmeyer got out of the inning to give MIT a chance for the walk-off win. Scarpaci led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to deep center and raced home for the winning run on an Adkison single.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Langmeyer got win to move to 5-1.

- Scarpaci finished 2-3 with a career-high four RBI. Relihan and Johnston also recorded two hits in the game.

- Â The Engineers will take a week off and will return to action on Saturday, April 6th when they will head to Babson for a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.
