- The Lead: The No. 24 MIT men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Nichols on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Engineers started strong, winning all three doubles matches convincingly. In No. 3 doubles, seniors
Sundeep Chakladar (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and
Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) took an 8-1 win, the first of the day, followed by an 8-1 MIT win in No. 2 doubles by senior
Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and first-year
Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.). Graduate student
Daniel Papacica (Carmel, Calif.) and first-year
Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) closed out doubles action with an 8-3 win.
- MIT won all six singles. The first singles win came from sophomore
Jeremy Yu (Coppell, Texas) by a 6-3, 6-2 score in No. 6 singles followed by first-year
Siddharth Marathe (Pune India) in three singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
- First-year
Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) took No. 2 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-0 while junior
Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) won in No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Sophomore
Ethan Nguyen (Farmington, N.M.) won 6-2, 7-6 with a 3-0 tiebreaker in four singles followed by sophomore
Nicholas Liu (San Diego, Calif.) finishing off the day with a 6-0, 6-4 win in five singles.
